We are so used to consuming the end-products of the creative process - movies, songs, art - that we largely ignore the process of actually making the art. I happen to be making lots of art. Not just the piece that I post every week but also art for shows, for people and also art that might go nowhere at all. There's an ebb and flow and flow to the process.
This week, I am ebbing.
I spent last weekend reading Jane Enthoven's book The Stitches of Creative Embroidery and I also took naps, baked bread and doodled. On Tuesday, I browsed through the art supply store and bought a new sketchbook, which is what I do when I don't know where things are heading. Rather than scare me, the blank page comforts me. There's possibility there although I don't know what that possibility is - not yet.
Unsurprisingly, this week's story is about wandering through an unfamiliar landscape - the underworld. My own underworld often comes out in dreams and the way out is often rooted in the memories from my childhood. So there you have it. On the menu this week: a child-like illustration and musing on wandering. Read the story.
